A Slow December: Choosing Peace Over Holiday Pressure
December always seems to show up with a long to-do list and a whole lot of expectations. The world tells us this month should be magical, exciting, memory-filled, sparkly, and full of events. But as a mom — especially a stay-at-home, homeschooling, homestead-running mom — December can feel more like a race than a celebration.
This year, I’m choosing something different.
I’m choosing slow and intentional.
The Pressure to “Do It All” Isn’t Holy Pressure. There’s this unspoken pressure on moms to create a picture-perfect December: coordinated pajamas, endless crafts, advent activities, outings, baking days, matching ornaments, perfectly wrapped gifts…
And while those things are fun, they quickly become overwhelming.
Our kids don’t need just a “magical” December.
They need a present mom, a peaceful home, and moments that feel real and this can be just as magical. Don’t feel pressured too go above your physical and mental means, it can be simple and just as special.
Here’s what slow December looks like for us:
more slow mornings and fewer rushed starts
cozy blankets on the couch with Christmas books
one or two simple traditions we actually enjoy
saying “no” without guilt
choosing connection over perfection
letting small moments be enough
A slow month doesn’t mean December loses its magic — it means the magic becomes more meaningful.
When we let go of the pressure to keep up, compete, or create an Instagram-perfect holiday, something beautiful happens…
We make room for peace.
God never asked us to hold December together.
He simply asked us to hold onto Him.
Your December Doesn’t Need More — It Needs Less
Less pressure.
Less noise.
Less comparison.
Less guilt.
Less rushing.
& if you need more add these:
More rest.
More laughter.
More togetherness.
More grace.
More Jesus.
If December already feels heavy, mama… take a breath.
Your home doesn’t need perfection — it needs peace.
